How this calculator works
Contribution per unit = selling price − variable cost. Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ contribution. Target-profit units = (fixed costs + target profit) ÷ contribution. Whole units round up.
Planning estimate only. Review the assumptions alongside the result before using it for a tax, financing or business decision.
Common questions
Why is my result unavailable?
If variable cost equals or exceeds the selling price, each sale cannot contribute toward fixed costs. The business cannot reach break-even under those assumptions.
Can a service business use this?
Yes. A unit can be a billable hour, project or package, provided the price and variable costs describe the same unit.
